In Soviet Seibertron: Our War, Their World

November 2, 2014

Okie doke, so I enjoy the IDW comics version of Transformers. Now, for quite some time, they’ve been hinting at the theological, sociological etc beliefs of the Transformers and how & what the neverending war between the Autobots and Decepticons was about (granted, said neverending war’s “officially” ended). Well, issue 34 for both Robots in Disguise and More Than Meets the Eye, finally shed light on that. It’s about AMERICA.

So here’s the timeline as I understand it. In the beginning, was the God Robot (abbreviated as GoBot) named Primus. Primus created 13 Transformers/Primes and these 13 (or at least most of them) went on to create Tribes. So for instance, the Beast Prime created a tribe of Transformers with beast modes, the Female Prime created a tribe of amazonian automatons whilst the Minicon Prime went and made the Minicon tribe. This was known as the Age of Primes.

Toward the end of the Age of Primes, the tribes were fighting amongst themselves. Until a handful of “heroes” rose up and united the tribes. With the original 13 Primes all awol, the leader of these heroes became the one and only Prime. Under his leadership, they abolished the tribes system and built a society based on ability and merit. This was known as the Golden Age.

Then came Megatron. From humble beginnings, he became a major force to be reckoned with. He wrought low the Golden Age because fuckit, he’s an evil sonovabitch…

Well, except…

See, the thing is, yeah, the Tribes system was a feudal/dictatorial system with the Primes as eternal god-kings.

But the Golden Age was actually… preeeetty much it was COMMUNISM.

Transformers were no longer separated by their tribal affiliation, but by their alt modes and therefore functions. The beast-formers were animals and treated as such. If you were a Transformer who turned into a plow, you’re expected to plow and you weren’t allowed to explore other options. In this Golden Age of merit and ability, it was more Golden for some than others. I.e. some were more equal than others.

Megatron brought down the Golden Age because he wanted to create a world where Transformers were free to choose their own destiny. To be blunt, he’s all about the American Dream. He just wanted the opportunity to succeed, even if the risk was failure. Megatron represented CAPITALISM. Megatron is AMERICA.

And now that we have that context, we can see what the Decepticons really are. The Decepticons are CORPORATE AMERICA. They’re expansionist and they’re willing to step over anyone in their way. But they do it, for the dream. For the chance of achieving success. It’s just that they’re otherwise evil by default because this story is ultimately derived from a simplistic scenario designed for a toyline.

Also, now that we know the Decepticons are actually just hardworking Americans who work for Weylan-Yutani, this means that the Autobots are Hippy Treehuggers. They want the idealistic commie ideals whilst ignoring the weaknesses of said system.

So yeah. That’s TOTALLY the implication, intentional or not.

He probably told the Vehicons to repeat that repeatedly whilst doing a sexy pelvic sway dance.
