You Must Defeat Sheng Long to Stand a Chance! (of Scoring with your Sister)

October 18, 2010

The dad in OreImo is my hero.

So yeah, OreImo’s come around full circle. It started off with a normal-by-anime-standards family situation. Sister and brother don’t dig each other and the parents are normal parents and aren’t absent, dead, or piloting giant robots while being absent and dead. But in a mere three episodes the series has thrown all of that out and descended into full-blown incest territory.

Yeah, there’s no way in hell that the brother would go that far out of his way to fuck up his relationship with his father if he was just sticking up for his sister. He had already fixed most of his sister’s problems with his angry rant. The dad was willing to let the sister keep her otaku friends and was willing to ignore her hobby so long as she wasn’t watching shit that wasn’t adult-only porn shit. The dad was making a serious compromise in order to maintain the family’s cohesiveness: let the daughter do her thing so long as she maintained her good standing in school and whatnot. All she has to do is not play games that she shouldn’t even be able to legally buy since she’s way to young to get a hold of them.

Dude, seriously, you just helped change your dad’s mind. Any decent, loving, regular brother would be happy at this point. Yeah, she’ll still have to be secretive about her porn fetish and might have to toss out some of the stuff she already owns, but you made your dad accept her for who she is. Nope, you aren’t happy. You gotta go and claim that her porn shit is yours and divert the heat from her to you. You do realize that you essentially told your dad that you wanna fuck your sister, right? Because any rational human being, when confronted with the fact that their son plays sister-fucking video games in his sister’s room, is going to think that some Jerry Springer-level shit is going down. And any rational human being is going to assume that it isn’t consensual.

Your dad thinks you’re either going to, or already have, forced yourself onto your sister. And then you wonder why he gets pissed off and decks the hell out of you?

The problem is that your actions have exposed you. All of the “thinking this is like a porn game” jokes were one thing, but your actions prove that you really do have a sister fetish. You chose your relationship with your sister over your relationship with your father, and this was after you helped make everything more or less right with everyone. It wasn’t enough that your dad was accepting of most of your sister’s shit. It wasn’t enough that she was able to keep her friends. You had to go all the way, just like how you want to go all the way with your sister. And that little blush and “she can’t be this cute” exclamation at the end of the episode was further proof. You couldn’t just nod, smile, and sigh that she’s finally giving a genuine sign of gratitude. You had to get all flustered and embarrassed, like some spineless dweeb who just had a girl confess to him for the first time.

So yeah, I guess we could call this a realistic depiction of incest or something, but any claims that OreImo is somehow some realistic depiction of sibling relationships are gone for good. Just like I am. The cool bits with the sister hanging out with her otaku buddies aren’t worth the nausea of seeing the brother’s sister fetish blossom and grow.

Meh it seems like the father and son hate each other anyway. So it’s not that shocking the son would risk that relationship, or lack thereof. Nobody gives a shit about him anyway.

I also think Kyousuke was just using foresight to realize that Kirino wouldn’t put up with Anime/friends and not eroge. I mean eroge seems to be her driving passion. Also I think he felt responsible for letting slip to the dad that she was hiding more of it.

But I agree with you on everything else. The exchange was rather dumb and Kyousuke should have let Kirino handle it.

I’m willing to give the scene with the dad the benefit of the doubt because a) it was funny, b) because he might have been rebelling against his dads iron fist rule of the house and c) he might have been simply trying to draw attention to himself in a house where most of the attention was on the younger sister and nobody seemed to care about him (‘when you can’t be famouse, be infamous’ on a family scale).

But the after that did piss me off though. Because it was there that the thought sprung into his mind “hey wait, maybe my sister can be this cute”. Nonononono, don’t go and kill the very selling point of this series!

Yeah, it was that last bit with the sister that brought it all together. I liked the scene with the dad, and the bit where he tries to get the dad pissed at him instead of the sister could have been seen as “let me get one in on my dad” up until that last scene. It made me go back and see everything else in a different light.

Kinda like the ending to Angel Beats or something like that. Just a few seconds of shit can toss everything else that’s good out the window by making you see all that other stuff differently.

You wrote what I cannot about this episode because it annoys me too much.

“Yeah, there’s no way in hell that the brother would go that far out of his way to fuck up his relationship with his father if he was just sticking up for his sister.”

Ummm… I’ve SEEN this kinda stuff happen, except it was my mom sticking up for her little sister.

    just fyi, not that unbelievable.

and I doubt his dad was stupid enough for a second to believe he actually meant what he said. It’s got standing up for your sibling over your parent written all over it.
